MAGIC & BANDU

In the words of the Mystics before the Breaking, bandu meant “bound to fate.” The threads of bandu wove lives, magic, and destiny together. There were those who believed that mortals and immortals alike were mere slaves to fate. Others, however, aspired to turn the tide of fate to their advantage, calling themselves “bandu benders.” This proved to be true, leading to some of the most significant and catastrophic events in the world that was. But not even the Breaking could fray the strongest bandu bonds. Instead, it merely paved a new way for those bound to fate to shape the world.

Bandu is the most powerful element in the Wheelhouse setting, and those who can bend fate to their choosing draw the line between the servants of fate and those who truly shape the world.

Yet where the notion of bandu abounds, the idea of magic has waned along with its presence in the Remains. Although the Wheelhouse would prefer that people believe magic is extinct, the truth is that it does still exist. Many of the magical races were destroyed in the Breaking, and many others suffered dire consequences in the ensuing aftermath. But there are some that have managed to endure despite the challenges and odds stacked against them.

Relics and artifacts of the old world are  scattered throughout the Remains. These touchstones to old Mythren are in high demand by seekers and scavengers who have found numerous ways of profiting off of them. Though there are no longer magicians or sorcerers capable of mastering the arcane powers as in the days of old, there are those who might still have the ability to harness and manipulate arcane forces.  And there are certainly those who crave power.

Together, bandu and magic remain pillars upon which the world of Mythren has been rebuilt.
